Deaths in Custody II
The Divisional Court denied the appeal. Both the Ontario Human Rights Commission and Ms. Braithwaite are seeking leave to appeal the decision. More soon on this!
Suzan E. Fraser is a lawyer specializing in the constitutional and administrative law with an emphasis on public law issues relating to vulnerable people.
Suzan Fraser has represented a number of public-interest groups at high profile inquests relating to the deaths of vulnerable people involving policing, deaths in custody, youth detention and child welfare. Suzan was counsel to the substitute decision maker in A.M. v. Benes at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. She now appears there as Amicus Curiae to mentally disordered accused. She frequently represents clients before the Ontario Review Board and Consent and Capacity Board. Suzan represented the Mental Health Legal Committee on at the Supreme Court of Canada on the leading case on abuse of public office. She successfully represented the appellant in Pinet v. St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital at the Supreme Court of Canada. She has delivered legal education to the members of the Consent and Capacity Board and the Ontario Review Board. Suzan is active in the community and serves on the Saving Lives Implementation Group with the Chief of the Toronto Police Service.
